mata traders remix challenge: Isle of Sky Dress

mt1 mt10

Mata Traders is a fair trade clothing company dedicated to empowering women. When they graciously offered to send me a couple of dresses for review on Style Wise, I was quite happy to see a maxi dress option because it’s a silhouette I don’t often wear and I think it’s the perfect thing for transitional spring weather. I picked out the Isle of Sky Maxi in Navy and Pink. I like the modern, minimalist high neckline and straight fit, as well as the fact that it actually goes past my ankles (most maxis seem to be made for shorter individuals).

I styled the dress in three different ways. Though I would happily wear all three looks to my casual workplace, they’re meant to showcase the versatility of the style, going from casual to a bit more formal.

1. A Day at the Park: Paired with a simple scarf and MIA sandals.

2. Coffee Date: Paired with J. Crew chambray and old motorcycle boots.

3. Outdoor Wedding: Cinched shorter with fun thrifted heels by Sbicca.

(To get the shorter look, take a long piece of ribbon and tie it at mid thigh around the fully extended dress. Pull up the dress from the place the ribbon lays until it begins to form a bubble hem. Adjust and pull the ribbon to the top of your thigh for ease of movement. For a more secure version, try small safety pins.)

I’ll likely be wearing this with minimal accessorizing in the warmer months. I’d like to see how it looks layered over a collared shirt, as well. Oh! A quick note: this Saturday is World Fair Trade Day! I’m planning to check out the festivities at my local Ten Thousand Villages.

I’m really happy that their silhouettes have become a bit less frilly. And I love the house print textile they’re using this season, too.

  2. Sonya Mann says:

Beautiful! That last styling is particularly clever.
